Carve Your own Original Stone Stamp

(include Seidenseki stone, sandpaper, Tenkoku knives, Ink, etc.)

Details: Class participants will learn how to engrave a personal stamp in Tenkoku moji (the traditional Japanese stone stamp font), katakana, or even the English alphabet. You can choose or design your own letter/symbol and carve it into 18mm on the surface of 青田石, Seidenseki. This is soft stone carving and is good for beginners. This class will focus on the carving aspect. Choosing the design, symbol or letter to be engraved can be challenging, so if choosing a custom design it is advisable to have some idea in mind ahead time before the class. Sumi Ink Painting Beginner Course (6 days)
Date: 2.5 hrs. every Sunday (in February, March )
Learning Shikunshi (四君子)
Shikunshi is commonly introduced as a subject in Sumi-e, allowing beginners to grasp fundamental techniques. The bamboo, Chinese orchid, plum, and chrysanthemum are collectively referred to as Shikunshi, symbolizing four men of virtue due to their noble and honest characteristics.
Day 1st. Drawing Bamboo
- Understand the difference between Sumi-e and other art forms
- Learn Sanboku-ho (三墨法)
- Kataguma (片隈)
- Sakiguma (先隈)
- Uchiguma (内隈)
- Writing your name
Day 2nd. Drawing Chinese Orchid
- Learn the 4th basic technique of Sumi-e:
- Ryoguma (両隈)
Day 3rd. Drawing Plum Blossoms
- Learn Warifude (割筆)
Day4th. Drawing Chrysanthemums
- Learn Sabaki fude (裁き筆)
Day 5th. Drawing Peony
- Learn Motoguma (元隈)
Day 6th Draw all the subjects on Hansetsu
