Class Description:
This introductory Sumi-e class teaches the foundational techniques of Sumi-e, enhanced with color. Focus on the plum blossom—one of the four honorable plants of Shikunshi (四君子)—to master essential brushwork that applies to any Sumi-e subject.
What you will learn in this workshop:
Dry Brush (Warifude / 割筆): Learn to paint the , twisted branches of the plum blossom.
Three-Ink Method (Sanboku-hō / 三墨法): Master ink and brush gradients for rich depth and tone.
Painting a Sea of Clouds with Niwaka (Glue Binder)

Class Description:
Learn how to paint a dramatic sea of clouds using traditional Sumi ink and niwaka (glue binder)! Since this technique involves heavy water washes, we will also practice light paper backing (mounting) to help stabilize and flatten your artwork.
