* Urauchi (Paper Mounting) Option (Extra $10): Urauchi is a traditional technique where backing paper is attached to the rear of your Sumi-e painting. This smooths out any natural wrinkles caused by the ink and makes the piece durable and ready to frame.

  • Turnaround Time: Because the artwork must dry completely, it will be returned to you a few days after the workshop rather than on the same day.

You will learn the three basic techniques of Sumie
– Kataguma (片隈)
– Sakiguma (先隈)
– Uchiguma(内隈)

Class Description:Capture the beauty of fall while learning foundational Sumi-e brush techniques and using a unique tool

What you will learn in this workshop:

– Dry Brush (かすれ): Creating rich, rough rock textures
– Three-Ink Method (三墨法): Master multi-tone brush gradients to paint vibrant Japanese maple leaves (もみじ)

-Turntable Ripple Technique: Use a rotating paper table to easily draw smooth, concentric water ripples in a single stroke.
