Sumie Evening Series of 6 days 
The Art of the Ink Wash Brush

〇Duration: 6 days All Friday
(June, 5, 12, 19, 26, July 10, and 17)

〇Time: 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM

〇Location: Northwood Elementary School Cafeteria

〇Class size: Max 10 people (minimum 2 to have class)

〇Age: 11+

〇Fee: Total $250 ($40/day x 6days+$10 paper fee)
- Partial Enrollment Option: I offer a flexible option for those with busy schedules. You may attend a minimum of 4 sessions for $170.

Policy: Please indicate the specific dates you will be attending at the time of registration. Due to the progressive nature of the Shikunshi curriculum, a minimum of 4 sessions is required for enrollment.

(Materials: Includes Rental of ink stones and brushes, and provides all the Gasenshi, paper for Sumie used during the classes )

However, It's best to get medium-sized and small-sized brushes if you can.  I will provide a link you can buy through

What do I learn during 6 days?

You are learning Shikunshi (四君子).
Master the fundamental brush techniques of traditional Japanese ink painting. By practicing the Shikunshi (the bamboo, Chinese orchid, plum, and chrysanthemum), students gain the essential skills needed to paint any subject in Sumi-e.

-5 gradation and shading echniques: Kataguma, Sakiguma, Uchiguma Ryoguram, Motoguma

-Sabaki-fude & Warifude: Mastering specialized "split-brush" techniques for expressive textures.
